Shirley Louise (Wagner) Lowery, 79, of Rohrersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, while surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 14, 1935, in Keedysville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John Benjamin and Rachael Josephine (Cline) Wagner. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William Elwood Lowery, on March 31, 2007; and her daughter, June Harris, on July 31, 2012.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate from the Boonsboro High School, and in 1956 she graduated from the Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for over 17 years at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Shirley was active with the Boonsboro High School Athletic and Band Boosters and was a member of the Pythian Sisters of Maryland. She was also a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Keedysville where she had worked as the Parish Secretary.
Shirley is fondly remembered for her love of needlework, reading and cooking. She was an avid Orioles fan and will be missed greatly by her loving grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
She is survived by one daughter, Julie Smith and her fiancé Bob Tharpe of Laurel, Maryland; two sons, Wayne Lowery and wife Dawn of Boonsboro, and Keith Lowery and wife Sue of Rohrersville; two brothers, Benjamin and James Wagner, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Beverley Dalton of Bowie, Maryland; nine grandchildren, Sarah and Joshua Harris, Amanda and Christina Smith, Evan, Shane, Andrew and JR Lowery, and Kristin Lumm and husband Brian; and her son in law, Kevin Harris.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Eric R. Moser will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the funeral home, where the Pythian Sisters will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m.
