Shirley Hutzell

October 6, 1934 — March 15, 2013

Mrs. Shirley Kerchner Hutzell, 78, of Ijamsville, passed away peacefully on Friday March 15, 2013 at her home with loving family by her side.  Married September 3, 1955, she was the wife of Leslie U. Hutzell for 57 years.

Born October 6, 1934 in Walkersville, MD, Shirley was the daughter of the late Robert Kerchner and Katherine Kefauver Kerchner Eicholtz.  She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Frederick High School Class of 1952.   In her early career, Shirley worked for Ritchie Associates and Fritz Bowers Architect before becoming a stay at home mom in the late 1960s.  From 1979-1996, she was bookkeeper and treasurer for Hutzell's Realty, Appraisal, Consultant, and Investment Services.  After retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with dear friends in Daytona Beach, FL.   Her greatest love was being Mamaw to her two grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her daughter, Leslie Ann Hutzell Eyler and husband Allan of Frederick; two grandchildren, Megan Katherine and Jeffrey Allan Eyler of Frederick; sisters-in-law, Louise Smith of Mt Airy and Paulina Burgee of Mt Pleasant; uncle, Clyde Kefauver and wife Nayoda (Kitty) of Braddock Heights; aunts, Janet Kerchner Newcomer of Orrtanna, PA and Betty Kerchner of Greencastle, PA; nephews, Philip Smith and wife Carol of Walkersville and Gene Burgee of Mt. Pleasant; and niece, Carolyn Smith Pollatos and husband John of Mt. Airy.    She will be lovingly remembered by Karen Starr Barker and husband Timothy (Vic); and Godsons, Michael Madrake and family and Tim Barker and family.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on  Wednesday, March 20, from 2-4 and 6-8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at10:00 am on Thursday, March 21, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 West Second Street, Frederick with  Rev. Harry C. Cole officiating.

Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery
