Mrs. Shirley Elaine Fritz, 83, formerly of Knoxville, MD, and more recently a resident a Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick, died Monday, July 14, at Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of Alton D. Fritz, Jr. for over 61 years.
Born March 18, 1931, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Howard M. and Ida Mae Kemp.
Mrs. Fritz was a devoted military wife and loving mother for over 61 years. Upon returning to the Frederick area in 1971, she was employed at the local Electrolux store. She was the Operations
Manager for J.C. Penney in Frederick for over 10 years during the 1970's and 1980's. She also worked for Quorum 101 in Frederick.
As a volunteer and Secretary/Treasurer for the CAMPER association with the Catoctin Area National Park in Thurmont, Maryland, she helped with the restoration and re-opening of Camp Misty Mount.
Surviving in addition to her husband Alton D. Fritz, Jr., are four children, Richard B. Fritz and wife Jean of Brooklyn Park, MN; Debra L. Fogle and husband Richard of Walkersville, MD; Larry A. Fritz and wife Cindy of Damascus, MD; and Sharon A. Smith and husband Walter of Knoxville, MD. She is also survived by one brother, James Kemp of Florida and one sister Betty Tracey of Maine. She was the loving grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, John H. Kemp, and four sisters Eleanor Brust, Carrie Hanshew, Julia Brandenburg, and Jane Snyder and step-father Charles E. Riddlemoser.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Thursday July 17, from 2-4 and 7-9pm, where services will be held Friday, July 18 at 10:00 am with Rev. Franklin D. Bishop officiating.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
