Shirley “Marie” Dorsey (Tyler), 71, of Westminster entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, peacefully in the loving arms of her family; as result of a courageous battle with Cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded in the loving company of family and friends that Marie touched in some way throughout her fruitful life. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, sister and cherished friend.

She was born September 30, 1943 to the late Thurman “Jake” and Florabelle (Snowden) Tyler in Mt. Airy, MD. She is survived by her five siblings, Patricia “Jack” Diggs, Tracy Tyler (Toni), Brenda Walker-Osuegbu (Dan), John E. Dorsey and Paul Smith (Ruth). Five Step-Siblings, Renee Maryland, Dana Turner, Kimberly Turner, Thomas Turner and Michelle Turner. Her six loving children Anthony “Tony” Oram, Darlene Dorsey, Brittany Johnson-Dorsey, Davon Dorsey, Marvin Dorsey and Diamond Dorsey; and very devoted adopted son, Tyrone Snowden. Her former husband, Herman Dorsey of Westminster, MD. Seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. A host of nieces,nephews and cousin. Devoted friends, Judith Hill, Carol Johnson and Edgar Young. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thurman “Junior” Tyler, brother-in-law Edward Diggs, step-mother, Minnie J. Tyler and cousin Peggy Hurt.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in Frederick in 1961. Like her father, Marie was bitten by the entrepreneur bug, she formed her own cleaning business, H & M Cleaning in 1977. She also opened a restaurant called M.O.M.S in tribute her mother in 1995. In more recent years, being the outstanding cook that she was known to be, she begin offering event catering for weddings and other occasions. She employed many people over the years in her many ventures. Marie was always looking to give a “hand-up” to anyone she met who was in need work. She never met a stranger; she touched the lives of many people with her warm smile and generosity; and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

Marie was active member of Strawbridge Church in New Windsor, MD. She always made herself available to serve in any capacity where she was needed from food preparation to greeter. She briefly was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star

To celebrate her life, the family will receive visitors on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 405 S. Main Street, Mount Airy, MD 21771. The Viewing will be held at 10 am, directly followed by the funeral service to start at 11am. Repass to follow, Interment private.
