Shirley Baker

Mrs. Shirley Ann Baker, 77, of Thurmont died Monday January 13, 2014 at Golden Living Center. She was the wife of the late Roy A. Baker.

Born August 18, 1936 in Thurmont, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Myrtle Grimes.

Shirley worked for many years for Crawford's Cleaning Co. in Frederick. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. According to her family, Shirley loved having "lots of kids always around her."

She is survived by five daughters, Karen James, Beverly Toms (Donald), Brenda Bare (Jimmy), Wanda Fultz (Charles) and Valerie Baker; daughter-in-law, Sandy Grimes; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth and Sonny Grimes.

In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by a daughter, Terri Young; a son, James Grimes; a son-in-law, David James, Sr.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five brothers, Melvin Bowers, Charles Grimes, Paul Grimes, Richard Grimes and John Grimes.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 17. Officiating will be Rev. James Coblentz.

Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Mike Grimes, Kenny Grimes, Zach Grimes, Jeremy James, Tyler Toms, and Jesse Henning.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2002 Clipper Park Rd., Suite 110, Baltimore, MD 21211.
