Mrs. Sherry C. Burford of New Market passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 21, 2014. She was the wife of Marc Burford, her husband of 33 years.
Born June 4, 1954 in Easton she was the daughter of Lorraine and Jerry Crouch of Annapolis. A 1972 graduate of Annapolis High School, Sherry received both her undergraduate degree and MBA from University of Baltimore. Sherry’s career spanned the transportation industry from several freight companies to later at the State’s Mass Transit Administration. In 1993, Frederick County, Maryland recruited her to create what became one of Maryland’s top public transportation programs, TransIT. Under her leadership, both national and international transportation organizations recognized Frederick for its extensive strides in community-based transportation. The New Market, Maryland resident retired in 2012.
An avid baseball fan, traveler, and quilter, Sherry relished the time she shared with family and friends, and especially, with her Siberian Huskies at her mountain retreat in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland.
Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are a sister, Lynn (Crouch) Goddard and husband Guy and their daughter, Stacey Goddard all of Annapolis; as well as numerous relatives on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Sherry’s deep and enduring friendships are too numerous to list.
The family will greet visitors from 3-5 and 7-9 PM Friday August 29, Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday August 30, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., Mt Airy.
