Sherman Junior Wigfield, 84, of Brunswick, Maryland died June 20, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital from complications of lung cancer. Born March 29, 1929 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Shay and Elsie Wigfield. Sherman leaves behind his wife of nearly 63 years, Norma June Bucy Wigfield.
Sherman spent his childhood years in Cumberland. In January 1951, he moved to Brunswick to begin his career as a steam engine fireman for the B&O Railroad. After a successful career, Sherman retired August 3, 1988 as an experienced train engineer for CSX. Sherman also enjoyed working part-time as a carpenter and was responsible for many remodeling improvements in the Brunswick area. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, bowling, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Sherman is survived by his brother Bill Wigfield of Fort Ashby, WV; four children, Gary (Sylvia) Wigfield and grandchildren Darren, Danny, twins Diane and Jason; Janet (Alan) Robertson and grandson Mark; James (Karen) Wigfield and grandson twins Tyler and Willie, triplets Grant, Shay, and Trent, and Reed; David (Cherie) Wigfield and grandchildren Ethan and Mandy, and step-grandchildren Heather and Alexis.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N Maple Ave, Brunswick. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Phil Graves and Mr. Bill Turney.
Interment will be in Brownsville Church of the Brethren Church Cemetery.
