Sheila Dudley

June 21, 1943 — January 12, 2018

Sheila Fendley Dudley, 74, went home to be with her Lord on January 12, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after an extended battle with heart and lung diseases.  Sheila was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick; Sheila was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, United States Marine and Federal Civil Servant. She was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Margaret Fendley of Thomasville, Alabama. Sheila is survived by her loving husband and buddy of 54 years Ronald; Daughter Ronda of Frederick; Son Derald, his wife Kathleen and Grandchildren Jacob and Lucy of Towson; Brother Derald Fendley and his wife Jan of Norman, Oklahoma.
Sheila was born in Mobile, Alabama on June 21, 1943. She graduated from Thomasville Alabama High School in 1962. After high school, she served two years in the United States Marine Corps obtaining the rank of Lance Corporal. She met and married Ronald while stationed at Camp Pendleton, California.  As the wife of a career Marine, Sheila continued to serve her country by creating warm and loving homes in over a dozen locations across America. Despite essentially being a single parent during Ronald’s multiple deployments, Sheila always provided safe, love-filled homes for Ronda and Derald.
During their travels, Sheila diligently continued her education by attending numerous colleges at night eventually earning her Associate in Arts degree. When Ronald retired from the service, Sheila became a Federal Civil Servant.  She worked as a Finance Clerk at Fort Richie and the Finance Department Manager at Fort Detrick where she was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service. Sheila retired from Federal Service as a Grants Management Specialist at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences at the Naval Support Activity Bethesda. Until her health deteriorated, Sheila continued to dedicate herself to others by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, The Advocates  for Homeless Families and the Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs.
Sheila loved to travel; she took great joy in seeing new places, experiencing new cultures, and meeting new people.  She visited 45 states; rode a camel in Morocco; went deep-sea fishing in Mexico and enjoyed a native fishing boat in the South China Sea. Sheila never met a stranger and cherished it all.
Sheila went through life hand in hand with Ronald; she always had a smile on her face, a song in her heart, and love for everyone.
