Sgt. David Vincent Williams, U.S. Army, of Frederick, Maryland, died on
Saturday, August 18th near Kandahar, Afghanistan at the age of 24. He was
serving in the U.S. Army's 2d Infantry Division supporting Operation
Enduring Freedom. Beloved son of the late Deborah Williams and Col. David W.
Williams, U.S. Army (Retired), also of Frederick, and beloved brother of
Emma Williams Dockery, her husband Derrick and their children Madison,
Mackenzie, and Derrick.
Sgt. Williams was a decorated and deeply-respected soldier serving since
August 2008 and deployed on his first overseas combat deployment since April
2012. A 2006 graduate of Urbana High School in Urbana, Maryland, he is
remembered fondly for his 2005 Senior Project, "Honoring Our Country's
Heroes" and by family & friends for his gentle sincerity and warm
compassion. His Army career included service in Korea and at Joint Base
Lewis-McCord, Washington. A private memorial service will be held at the
Fort Detrick Memorial Chapel, in Frederick, on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
Sgt. Williams embodied the best ideals of Army tradition, personal
character, and selfless service to America. His passing is mourned by all
knew him - "never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
