Scott Andrew John Ruetten was many things to many people during his short time here with us on Earth. Scott was a son, brother, father, grandfather, friend, artist, and drummer.
Scott was born to John “Jack” Ruetten Sr. and Lorraine (Lewandowski) Ruetten on June 30th, 1957. He was one of five boys, second youngest. Scott, though born in Portsmouth, Virginia, spent his life in Frederick County from age 7 until his death on Monday, May 16th, 2016. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1975. Straight out of high school, Scott was in the Navy from 1975 until 1979 and served as a Hull Technician, Fireman (HTFN). After his time in the Navy, Scott attended Frederick Community College for two years.During his time Scott played in many bands including but not limited to Monster Rock, Beef Pistol, The Lonely Hogcallers, The Brothers Grimm, and most recently Sourpuss. In early bands, Scott was most often the drummer, but he spent time singing and playing bass guitar as well. Scott considered his bandmates his family, and though there were many over his lifetime, he loved them all. Scott was a talented and emotive artist who drew inspiration from Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh, among others. He created logo and cover art for his own aforementioned bands as well as such musical acts and musicians as Jimmy Swope, The Blues Vultures, and The Left. Scott’s personal work often featured boldly-colored depictions of religious icons, fantastical creatures, and dark themes.
Above all things, Scott loved his family, the Lord, and rock ‘n’ roll.
He is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law Will, Tim and Robin, and Bart; his daughter Cori; his ex-wife Barbara Allen, step-daughter Kini Allen, and grandson Uvan Stewart; his son Spencer Race; as well as nieces and nephews, Will Jr., Kelsey (Ruetten) Christensen, Mary (Ruetten) Juska, Weylin, Sean, Ariana, and Erin. He now joins his father Jack, mother Lorraine, brother John, sister-in-law Kathleen (Littleford) Ruetten and many well-loved friends in the arms of the Lord.
In his own words, from one of his own songs, Scott is “ready for a long, long dream.”
