Sara Jane Baker, 96, of Sharpsburg, Maryland passed away November 23, 2024 at Creekside Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born June 23, 1928 in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Creston Hillard Bond and Mary Naomi (Swain) Bond, and stepmother Mary M. Bond.
She was a 1946 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She was a lifelong resident of Sharpsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Arthur C. Baker, and by her brother Creston Bond and sister Lorraine Oberholzer.
She was employed as the librarian at the Sharpsburg Library, a branch of the Washington County Free Library, for many years. She was a member of the Sharpsburg Library board. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown.
Sara Jane is survived by her daughter Patricia Hammond; her son Frederick Baker and his wife Victoria; four grandchildren: Sarah and Matthew Hull, John and Mia Hammond, David and Catherine Baker, and Thomas Baker; and seven great-grandchildren: Sarah Nadeau (Cody), Bradley Hull (Stephanie), Mary Skeens (Kyler), Sadie Hull, Nathaniel Ward, Ginny Wren Ward, and John Carter Hammond.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
