Sandra May Harris

Mrs. Sandra May Harris, 61, of Pleasant View Road, Adamstown, answered the call of the heavenly Father to come home on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born on Feb. 6, 1946, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late John Williams Jr., Jessie May Herbert Ambush and step-father Otho L. Ambush. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1964, Baltimore City College as a LPN in 1965, and Frederick Community College in 1978 as a registered nurse.

Sandy, as she was affectionately known, was a dedicated member of the Sunnyside United Methodist Church in Frederick County and served on many volunteer committees and church offices. Mrs. Harris loved singing. She was a member of the Maryland Chapter of Sweet Adelines Chorus, first in Frederick County and in her later years in Montgomery County under the direction of Carolyn Sexton.

She was also a member and president of the Sunnyside Chorale Ensemble, her church choir. Her 36 years of employment, was done as a nurse at Frederick Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2002 due to illness.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her beloved and devoted husband of 41 years, Howard E. Harris Sr.; loving and adoring daughter and son: Kimberly Ann Harris at home and Howard Eugene Harris Jr. and wife, Anna, of Chambersburg, Pa.; three admired grandchildren: Samuel Biggus Jr., Kaitlyn and Kyle Harris of Chambersburg, Pa.; Goddaughter, Jessica Ambush; loving brothers and sister: Stanley E. and friend Evelyn of Hagerstown, Anthony L., Roger E. and friend Sharon; a step-brother, John Ernest Williams and wife, Holly, and Virginia Ambush all of Frederick; mother-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Harris; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two aunts: Mrs. Christina Ambush and Bessie Holliman and husband Gene; an uncle, Cornelius Parker. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends George and Catherine Kirk and Austin and Connie Drury, also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen D. Ambush, nephew, Wesley Ambush, an uncle, John Henry Herbert, grandparents: Roger E. and Jessie L. Weedon Herbert, Roy and Virginia Ambush, great grandparents: John and Cora Herbert and Henry and May Weedon.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services: Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, at The Thomas Tabernacle Holiness Church, 531 S. Market St., Frederick. Interment will be in the Sunnyside United Methodist Church Cemetery.
