Sandra Kay Matson

Sandra Kay Matson went to the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. She was a caring and devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, foster parent, and nurse to so many. 

She was born in Fargo, North Dakota to Kathleen (Tierney) and Richard Bowman. She has two brothers, Lawrence Bowman (Peggy) and Steve Bowman (Carol); and one sister, Beth Osen (Wallace). 

Sandi graduated from Fargo High School in 1963 and The University of North Dakota in 1967 with a BS in Nursing. She married Eric Knox Matson on June 3, 1967 in Fargo, ND. She then worked in a variety of hospitals while traveling with her (late) husband Eric (USAF) to each new place he was stationed. She worked in Labor and Delivery, Med-Surg, Spinal Cord Injuries, Adult Day Services, and Well Aging. She loved meeting friends for Bible Study and working on her patio garden, cross-stitch, and Sudoku. Sandi and Eric also loved caring for 45+ foster children. She shared her love for and persistence in helping others by serving our Lord on mission trips locally as well as to Alabama.

She is survived by her sister, Beth (Wally); brother, Larry (Peggy); sisters-in-law, Jane, and BJ; her children, Melissa Harner (Charles) of Mt. Airy, MD, Shawn Matson (Sharne) of Acton, CA, Ryan Matson (Amanda) of Tracy, CA, and Dario Matson. She has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly - Jacob, Cameron, Kayla, Chace, Rafferty, Mikayden, Beckett, Sophia, Alexis, Stella, and Lane; as well as nephews, nieces, and cousins whom she often spoke of fondly and lovingly.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 27015 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD. Sandi will be laid to rest next to her beloved Eric at Ligonier Valley Cemetery, Ligonier, Pennsylvania at a later date.
