Samuel [Sam} R. Steel, Jr.

Mr. Samuel Sam R. Steel, Jr., 78 of Frederick, MD., died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of M. Maurine Bush Steel his wife of 40+ years..

Born February 14, 1931 in Ridgeville, Md., he was the son of the late Samuel R. Sr. And Edna C. Pope Steel.

Mr. Steel retired as an electrician from the National Bureau of Standard in 1981. He was a projectionist at the Mt. Airy Theater for 1 yr in 1947and also worked at Ft. Detrick for 11 years as an electrician. He served his Country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Sam was an avid train enthusiast, reader, enjoyed woodworking and John Wayne movies.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Samuel W. Steel and wife Debra of Cross Lanes, W VA, Charles Allan Steel and wife Kim of Myersville, John Westly Steel of Frederick, Todd Rossiter Steel and wife Sue of Hanover, PA, Christopher Gaines Steel and wife Lisa of Fernandina Beach, FL and Kathleen Jean Butts and husband Wade of Chambersburg, PA, a special grandson Dalton Steel of Fernandina Beach, FL, granddaughters Haylee Staruk, Hannah Steel, Holland Steel, Christena Ashworth, Danielle Steel and Ansley Steel, great grandson Phylex Ashworth, great granddaughter Aurore Juliet Staruk.his sisters Edna May Wright of Mt. Airy and Alice E. Sullivan of Lumberton, N.J, a niece Pam Divis and husband Don of Mt. Holly, NJ. He will also be remembered by his special friends Nelson Gray and Dick Stull.

He was preceded in death by a sister Betty Jane Steel and his first wife Jean McQueen.

Services: The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 2, at the Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Road, Frederick, MD from 12:00 noon until service time at 1:00 p.m.with Pastor Linda Warehime officiating. Interment will be private.
