Samuel Newton Himes, born October 22, 1930, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 11, 2009.

Sam worked at the Washington DC railroad terminal then the B&O and CSX Railroad in Brunswick as an electrician for 44 years. He served in the U. S. Army with the 2nd Infantry Division, 72nd Tank Battalion during the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, He was a life member of the VFW, The American Legion and the NRA.

He leaves behind a wife of 58 years, Evelyn Reynolds Himes. Also, survived by three children; Samuel Himes Jr.and wife Kim of Martinsburg, WV, Marty Himes and wife Earlene of Knoxville and Deena Wisner also of Knoxville. Grandchildren Bruce Himes and wife Karen, Dan Wisner, Derek Wisner, Dean Wisner, Darby Wisner (All four of the Wisner grandchildren are currently serving in the U. S. Army) and Samuel Himes III. Six great grand children. One sister Mary Williamson of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Newton Clay and Lauretta Himes, a sister Estella Appleby and a granddaughter Michele Himes.


Visitation: Friends may call on Tuesday September 15, from
2-4 & 7-9pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, Md.

Services: Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday September 16, at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 3346 Gapland Road, Rohrersville, MD. The Pastor Wendell McClellan will officiate. Interment will follow in Brownsville Cemetery.
