Samuel Gardner Thomas, Jr., 62, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his home while surrounded by his family.
Born on September 9, 1950, in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Samuel Gardner Thomas, Sr. and Anna Mae (Miller) Thomas, and was raised by his late aunt and uncle, John and Mildred Miller.
He was veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Army.
He was employed as a truck driver, having worked for Steffey and Finley, Inc. in Hagerstown and L.W. Wolfe Enterprises, Inc.in Myersville, Maryland.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. (Nave) Thomas; one daughter, Suzanne T. Stambaugh and husband Lester of Martinsburg, West Virginia; one son, Samuel G. Thomas, III, of Boonsboro; two sisters, Connie Church of Fairplay, Maryland, and Doris Stallings of Sharpsburg, Maryland; two brothers, Raymond Thomas of Boonsboro, and Vernon Thomas of St. Peter's Missouri; three foster sisters, Sandra Henson of Sharpsburg, Shirley Cook of Boonsboro, Susan McGlaughlin of Sharpsburg; two foster brothers, Ronald Miller of Sharpsburg, and Samuel Miller of Williamsport, Maryland; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan and Evan Stambaugh. He is also survived by his best buddy Kaleb Thomas.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cindy Thomas and Bonnie Miller; and two brothers, John and Charles Miller.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Richard G. Hembrock will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, where Military Honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 in Boonsboro.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the funeral home.
