Samuel Griffith

Samuel L. Griffith, 89, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on November 17, 1923, in Keedysville, he was the son of the late Frisby Fillmore and Sarah Catherine (Lewis) Griffith.

Mr. Griffith was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II, and was a former member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.

He was employed with Standard Building System in Point of Rocks, Maryland for 14 years, Bester Long Construction in Hagerstown for 10 years, and also had worked for M.J. Grove Company in Frederick, Maryland.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret V. (Witmer) Griffith; five children, Samuel L. Griffith, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Fairplay, David L. Griffith and his wife, Patricia of Keedysville, Darlene L. Griffith of Hagerstown, Michael L. Griffith and his wife, Linda of Boonsboro and Paul L. Griffith, of Williamsport; one sister, Dorothy C. Dodson and her husband, Charles of Keedysvlle, Maryland. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosie Bowers, Martha L. Rudy and Mary V. Griffith; and five brothers, Kenneth, Leo, Lloyd, Wilmer, and Gardner Griffith.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 West Washington Street, Hagerstown. Rev. Ernest E. Witmer will officiate.

Family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.
