Mrs. Sally L. Frey, 86, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Homewood at Crumland Farms.
Sally was born in Larned, Kansas on 11/27/1924. Her parents were Henry W. and Mary Eller Fox. She attended McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas, then worked as a Civil Service employee at Herington Air Force Base, Kansas, during World War II. She also worked at Castle Air Force Base, Merced, CA for a year. At the end of the war, she came to Washington, D.C. as an employee of Strategic Air Command, traveling to Air Force bases as a member of an examining team. She was married to Charles H. Frey in 1948 and left government service at that time. After Charlie’s retirement in 1979 they traveled extensively, both on their own and as members of an Airstream travel group. For the last few years before moving to Homewood at Crumland Farms Retirement Center in Frederick in 2000, they lived in their motorhome, wintering in Florida and traveling in summer.
Charlie predeceased her in 2009. She is survived by four children: Cynthia Allison and husband Harvey of Austin, Texas; Susan Frey and husband Douglas Griffin of Germantown; David Frey of Silver Spring and John Frey of Princess Anne. Also surviving are grandchildren Jason Griffin, Jason Cook and Jennifer Frey and two great-grandsons.
She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, doing needlework, and gardening. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church for many years and at the time of her death was a member of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ in Frederick.
Also surviving are her sister, Alma Beth Fleske and husband Edward of Tulsa, OK, and eleven nieces and nephews and their families. Her two brothers, Robert and Marvin Fox, predeceased her.
Sally donated her body to the Maryland Anatomy Board to be used for medical education. A memorial service will be held at Homewood at Crumland Farms at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions payable to Homewood Foundation (PO Box 250, Williamsport, MD 21795) with “Sally L. Frey memorial” in the memo line. Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick is handling arrangements.
