Sachiko Ouri Summers was born in Yamagata-Ken, Japan and passed away peacefully at her current residence of Spring Arbor in Frederick, Maryland on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the age of 93.
Born on October 26, 1931, Sachiko, which means ”Child of Joy”, was the daughter of the late Eikichi and Mii Ouri. Sachiko was preceded in death by her brother, Masatoshi. She was also preceded in death by three husbands, Dean Calvin Phillips, Myron Woodrum Solter and George Donald Summers.
She is survived by her son, Mark Allan Solter (wife Debra), of Ijamsville, MD and her daughter, Diana Miki Solter (husband John Varnon), of Washoe Valley, NV; grandchildren, Stephanie de Wit (husband Michael) of Elkridge, MD, Kimberly Bennett (wife Laura) of Ellicott City, MD, Jon Solter of Frederick, MD and Justin Sulak of Washoe Valley, NV. She is also survived by her seven great-grandchildren, Grace de Wit, Lily de Wit, Julia de Wit of Elkridge, MD, Natalie Bennett, Aly Bennett, Lachlan Bennett of Ellicott City, MD and Kenzi Solter of Frederick, MD.
Sachiko traveled extensively to Europe, Asia and throughout the United States. She entertained family and friends being the perfect Japanese hostess as an accomplished cook. She was a season ticket holder to the Fairfax Symphony that she enjoyed attending with her husband, George, along with West Point events which were held annually. Sachiko loved to read, sew, and tend to her many house plants but especially loved the time she spent with her family. She was a doting mother as well as a wonderful, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She is/will be truly missed. We love you Sachiko and all the “Joy” you brought us.
