Mrs. Ruth K. Allen, 86 of Terra Alta, West Virginia, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Dr. Thomas J. Allen.

Born December 23, 1920 in Roanoke, VA, she was the daughter of the late Morton Jackson and Hattie Neighbors Logwood.

Mrs. Allen was a member of the Terra Alta United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where she taught 5th grade Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Allen was a graduate of Strayer Business College before serving her country as a Yeoman in the U. S. Navy. She went to bootcamp at Hunters College, Yeoman School - Oklahoma A&M and transferred to Ft. Detrick, Frederick, MD, working as a secretary to Civilian Scientist in a top secret facility at Detrick. She was discharged after WWII in 1946.

In earlier years she was a volunteer at Scott Key Center and then taught there from 1976 until 1985. She retired from Frederick to Alpine Lake in WV. She was a past member of the Greenwall Garden Club and a member of the Red Hats Society. Mrs. Allen enjoyed gardening, fishing, painting, playing cards and her favorite playing scrabble.

She is survived by her daughter Cathy A. Gordon and husband Glenn D of Frederick and her son Timothy J. Allen of Cumberland, MD, four grandchildren Gregory D. Gordon, Emily G. Gordon, Jeremy J. Allen and Thomas K. Allen and a great granddaughter Nevaeh Allen. She was preceded in death by three brothers Clarence, Edwin and Glen Logwood and a sister Eunice Duke. She was the last of her immediate family. She will be missed by her many friends at Alpine Lake.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, February 2, 2007 From 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.

Services: Services will be held Saturday, February 3. at 11:00 a. m., from the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick with Rev. Paul Munday and Rev. Michael Watson officiating. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
