Ruth Wojcik

Ruth Irene Wojcik passed away on May 16, 2017 in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was 99.

Ruth was born on March 29, 1918 in LaCrosse County, Wisconsin. She was a farm girl, the third of six children born to Nellie and Gustav Witte.

After graduating from Holmen High School in 1936 she worked as a dental assistant until passing the Civil Service exam for typing and stenography. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1940. There she met and married Robert A. Wojcik of Bloomfield, New Jersey on July 11, 1942 at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

While raising their four children in Baltimore and Lisbon, Maryland, Ruth worked for many years with the Boy Scouts and as a Cub Scout den mother. Later she worked over a decade full time as a teacher's aide at Lisbon Elementary School.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1967, her daughter Roberta in 1976 and her parents and siblings. Ruth lived the last few years of her life at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove in Wilmington, N.C.

Ruth is survived by her children, Lorraine Wojcik of Wilmington, N.C.; Carol (George) Thiel of Ivanhoe, N.C.; Raymond (Kathy) Wojcik of Woodbine, M.D.; her grandchildren Mara (Paul) Lynch, Carrie (Alex) Marsh and Erin Wojcik (fiance Ryan McHenry); and great grandchildren Caleb Lynch and Jude Marsh.

Ruth was well-loved by all her family, friends and neighbors. She will be truly missed.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD, 21771.

Graveside services and interment will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 23, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poplar Springs Cemetery. 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mt. Airy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Ruth's name to your local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) or their website at www.jdrf.org or Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C.
