Mrs. Ruth R. Pesto, 79, of Mt. Airy died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of the late George J. Pesto, who died on March 10, 2015.
Born June 25, 1938 in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Ruth (Gilbert) Calpin.
Ruth was an alumna of Church Home Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore and was a registered nurse for many years, retiring from St. Agnes Hospital. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she enjoyed daily Mass and volunteered with many church groups. She was a Eucharistic minister and led a monthly prayer service at Lorien in Mt. Airy. In addition to her church activities, Ruth enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, reading, watching Jeopardy, and listening to opera and classical music.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by five children, Elaine (Victor) Taylor of Mt. Airy, Suzanne (Bill) Middleton of Fenwick Island, DE, Michael (Catherine) Pesto of Sykesville, Keith (Nancy) Pesto of Johnstown, and Brian Pesto, also of Johnstown; seven grandchildren, Christopher Pesto, Jennifer (Brian) Peisach, Mark Pesto, Savannah Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Katelyn Taylor and Zoe Taylor; and a sister, Janet Calpin of Watkinsville, GA.
Ruth was predeceased by her grandson, Sam Pesto, and a sister, Margaret Kahler.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 9 at St. Michael's Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Lakeview Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Rd., Sykesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church at the above address; or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21771.
