Ruth Elba Meyers, 82, was born October 5, 1934 to Allen and Elba (Harrington) Hogeland at their farm outside of Bloomington, Nebraska.  She passed away December 15, 2016 at the Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, Maryland.


She received her formal education at Bloomington, Nebraska Consolidated School and graduated with the class of 1952.  After graduation she worked as a secretary to the county attorney in Franklin, Nebraska.


On September 13, 1953 she was united in marriage to Eugene E. Meyers of Wilcox, Nebraska.  Four sons were born to this union, Lindsey, Mitchell and Stuart.  Baby Samuel was born at rest.


During the course of raising her family she attended cosmetology school in 1975 and soon after opened a hair salon in Wilcox, Nebraska.  In later years Ruth and her husband relocated to Prescott, Arizona where they made many new friends.  In 1996 they moved to Aurora Nebraska to retire and later moved to Maryland to be closer to family.


Ruth was a member of the New Market, Maryland United Methodist Church where she served with the women’s auxiliary.


She was preceded in death by her infant son Sam, her parents Allen and Elba Hogeland, sister Jo Ann Richter of Aurora, Nebraska, three nephews Monte Smith of Casper Wyoming, Peter Bienhoff of Denver Colorado and Terry Richter of Aurora, Nebraska.


She is survived by her three sons and their families, Lindsey of New Market, Maryland, Mitchell and his wife Teresa of Ijamsville, Maryland, Stuart and his wife Michelle of Oswego, Illinois, five grandchildren, Justin of Blair, Nebraska, Allen, Meagan and Lauren of Ijamsville, Maryland and Alexander of Oswego, Illinois, three sisters, Allene Smith of Casper, Wyoming, Nancy and Lloyd Schepler of Holdrege, Nebraska, Mary Jane and Don Bienhoff of Omaha, Nebraska and one brother Scott and Joan Hogeland of Benkelman, Nebraska, in addition to many nieces, nephews and extended family.


A visitation will begin at the New Market United Methodist Church, 5501 Old New Market Road, New Market, MD on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 1:30 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm.
