Ruth Masemore

March 20, 1930 — November 19, 2015

Mrs. Ruth Anna Masemore, 85, of Thurmont, Md, died at her home Thursday, November 19, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Affectionately called “Ruthanna” by most, she was born March 20th, 1930 to Helen Sharer Troxell and Charles E. Troxell of Rocky Ridge, MD. She was the loving wife of Charles O. Masemore for 52 years.

As a young girl growing up on a farm, she was a tomboy who enjoyed playing outdoor games and sports. Ruth worked many years as a skilled Seamstress and also enjoyed sewing projects at home. She loved league bowling, planting flower gardens and had a green thumb. She also enjoyed keeping her mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles and playing word games with her sister Pauline Liller. Ruth was also known for her passion for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She was a longtime active member of Mt. Tabor Church in Rocky Ridge, MD.

Ruth is survived by her two children, daughter Linda M. Pirrung and husband Harry of Woodbine, MD and son Terry L. Masemore and wife Debbie of Thurmont, her five grandchildren, Harry G. Pirrung III and Kay of New Windsor, MD, David M. Pirrung and wife Rachel of Littlestown, PA, Shannon R. Pirrung of Woodbine, MD, Christopher L. Masemore and wife Kasey of Smithsburg, MD, Tara L. Colacioppo and husband Joe of Littlestown, PA, her five great grandchildren, Lauren and Jacob Pirrung, Kaitlyn and Evan Masemore, and Tyler Colacioppo, her sister Pauline Liller and husband Clifton, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles O. Masemore, two brothers, Vernon and Richard Troxell, two infant siblings, Dorothy and Donald Troxell, and her best friend and soul sister Joan Young Lookingbill.

In addition to family, Ruth also leaves behind many special people in her life, including chosen family and friends Sandy and Ed Hirsch, the Joan Lookingbill clan, and her loving devoted friend Tom Myerly.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8pm on Monday, November 23rd, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St, Thurmont, MD.

Funeral services will begin at 1pm on Tuesday, November 24th, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Russell officiating.

Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt Tabor United Church of Christ, 10043 Longs Mill Road, Rocky Ridge, MD 21778.
