Mrs. Ruth Rebecca Hackey, 92, of Damascus, passed away at the home her daughter Lois, in Bowie on Saturday, June 13, 2015, She was the wife of the late Harvey L. Hackey, Sr. who died in 1987.
Born September 13, 1922 in Frederick, MD she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Maggie Cornelia Proctor Carroll.
She was a loving homemaker, wife and mother and enjoyed the last 11 years in her townhouse in Damascus. Ruth loved to cook and was known for her homemade breads and pies, as well as spending time with her great grandchildren and her great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Cecile Foreman, Emma Carter, Nellie Foreman, Lois Hackey, Sharon Hackey and her granddaughter that she raised as her own, Melissa Hackey-Arnold; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and numerous relatives.
She was preceded in death by her children Harvey L. Hackey, Jr., Ernest Hackey, Emory Hackey and Charles Hackey; 3 grandsons, a great grandson; a brother, 3 sisters, and numerous step brothers and step sisters.
Friends and family will be received from 10-11 AM on Saturday, June 20, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike Frederick. Services and interment will be private.
