Ruth Ann Caslow Engel

Ruth Ann Engel, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at home in Walkersville surrounded by her family. 

She was born on December 1, 1939, in York, Pennsylvania to the late Roy H. and Erma A. Senft Caslow of Glen Rock, PA. On November 1, 1959, she married her late husband, Cassell Ray "Skip" Engel, with whom she shared 45 loving years until his passing. Together, they built a life filled with love and memories.

A proud graduate of Susquehannock High School in 1957, Ruth Ann furthered her education at the Maryland Medical Secretarial School in Hagerstown, MD.

Ruth Ann was employed by Lancaster General Hospital, Frederick Memorial Hospital, and Walkersville United Methodist Church. She spent over 20 years working for the Frederick County Board of Education, in psychological services, where she made many lifelong friends, before retiring in 2002. Her commitment to serving others reflected her kind heart and strong work ethic, traits that endeared her to colleagues and those she helped throughout her career.

She was a member of Glade United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years. Ruth Ann was a member of the Glade Valley Homemakers and loved reading and traveling with special friends. 

Ruth Ann is survived by her son, Charles Cassell "Chuck" Engel and his wife, Jo; her daughter, Carole Rae Kreimer and her husband, Mike; her sister, Barbara Sanbower; and her brother, Jerry Caslow and his wife, Dr. Jane Sutton. She cherished her grandchildren, Amanda Buckler and her husband, Bryan, Joseph Engel, Garrett Kreimer, and Blake Kreimer, and took immense joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Liam Buckler.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville with Pastor Chad Weddle officiating. Final resting place ceremonies will be held at Glade Cemetery in Walkersville. 

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church in Walkersville. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Glade United Church of Christ or to Frederick Health Hospice.
