Russell "Dick" Morgan

Russell E. "Dick" Morgan, 76, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at his home while surrounded by his loving family.

Born  on January 27, 1939  in Antietam, Maryland, he was the son of the late Russell R. "Pete" Morgan and Mary V. (Kretzer) Morgan.

Dick graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1956 where he was very active in various athletic sports, especially baseball.  He played youth baseball for the Funkstown Legion and then for the independent baseball leagues in both Antietam and Keedysville.

Dick was a veteran of the United States Army.

He retired from the Maryland Correctional Institute in Hagerstown, where he was a Lieutenant.  He also had been employed at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland.  He also assisted his wife in the operations of K and M Grocery for 20 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed planting and nurturing his garden each year.  He also enjoyed spending his spare time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Dick was a member of Chestnut Grove Bible Church in Keedysville.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doloris M. (Nick) Morgan; his four children, Jeffrey A. Morgan and wife Cheryl, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Kevin E. Morgan of Keedysville, Tracy A. Plasterer and husband LeErin Plasterer, II, of Greencastle, and Holly E. Kulikowski and husband Frank of Keedysville.  Ten grandchildren; Leslie, Lauren, LeErin, Jared, Kristen, Andy, Victoria, Cierra, Matthew and Sydney as well as three great grandchildren, sister Audrey Spielman and husband Frank of Sharpsburg, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his dog, Annie, and his cat, Boots.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas F. Morgan.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the Chestnut Grove Bible Church, 3636 Chestnut Grove Road in Keedysville.  Rev. David B. Manley and Rev. Daniel Hanshew will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Samples Manor Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Maryland, with military honors rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 from Boonsboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
