Mr. Russell W. Wetzel, 74 of Emmitsburg, MD., passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Martha Grace Eyler , his wife of 51 years.
Born March 15, 1937 in Frederick County, MD., he was the son of the late Charles Russell and Hattie Elizabeth Eyler Wetzel.
Russell owned his own trash business, Russell W. Wetzel & Sons for over 30 years. He worked for Alexander’s Plumbing for 10 years and was the maintenance man at Moser Manor for 10 years. He was a member of Gates of Praise Worship Center in Littlestown, PA and was also a member of the Gideons International.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Michael and wife Patsy and David and wife Lisa all of Emmitsburg, eight grandchildren Tracy Flohr and husband Jake, Michael Jr. and wife Amanda, Daniel and wife Amanda, Jonathan, Andrew and fiancé Ellie, Matthew, Benjamin and Luke, five great grandchildren Thomas and Alice Flohr, Jaidyn, Emily and April Wetzel, his brothers Kenneth, Eddie, Johnny and Robert, sisters Shirley Moser and Linda Humerick all of Emmitsburg. He was preceded in death by a son Russell William Wetzel, Jr., a brother Ronnie and a sister Mary Frances Diehl and half sisters Betty Miller and Ruth Andrew.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, on Wednesday, June 29, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m., where services will be held Thursday, June 30, at 11:00 am with Rev. Samuel Garrett officiating.
