Mr. Russell E. Hughes, 89 of Brunswick, Maryland entered in to the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Margaret Hughes, his wife of 69 years.
Born May 7, 1921 in Boonsboro, Maryland he was the son of the late Paul and Mary Hughes.
Russell served in the United States Air Force during WWII.
He was an active member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Brunswick. He served previously as trustee and a deacon. He previously attended Bethel Assembly of God Church in Baltimore where he drove the church bus and also served as trustee.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 43 years of employment. He was an avid coin and stamp collector.
Russell was looking forward to celebrating his 90 birthday this May.
In addition to his loving wife Margaret he is survived by a son, Gary Hughes and wife Lois of Baltimore, a daughter, Robin Turbin and husband Joe of Brunswick, three grandchildren, Jarrod Turbin and wife Tarin, Charles Hughes and wife Melissa and Christol Reinhardt and husband Frank, three great grandchildren, Mikayla, Megan and Madalyn Reinhardt, a sister, Genevieve Miller and a brother, Harold Hughes. He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, church members and friends.
He is predeceased by his brother, Robert, Harry, Wilmer and Don Hughes and a sister, Pauline Wilt.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Ave., Brunswick on Friday, April 22 from 6:00-9:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 1:00PM at the Faith Assembly of God Church, Souder Road & Route 17 in Brunswick with Rev. Gary Heffler and Rev. Charles Hughes officiating. The family will also be present to receive friends two hours prior to service time at the church on Saturday.
Interment will be in Brownsville Church of the Brethren Church Cemetery.
