Mr. Roy Joseph Dunavent, 83 of Frederick, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the College View Center, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Bonnie Spangler Dunavent, who preceded him in death on July 30, 1989.
Born August 25, 1924 in Washington, D. C., he was the son of the late Roy H. and Elizabeth Cotter Dunavent.
Mr. Dunavent graduated from Roosevelt High School, Wash., D. C. and attended George Washington University. He served in the U.S. Army, 7707th Military Intelligence Service during World War II. Mr. Dunavent worked at the David Taylor Model Basin, U.S. Naval Ship Research and Development Center, Carderock, MD, as an Aerospace Engineer until his retirement in 1975. He was an avid reader and enjoyed photography, classical music, family gatherings and caring for his very special canine companion, Barney. He was of Catholic faith.
Surviving are his step-children Jessie Fisher, Edith Wiles, Peggy Bender and husband Charles, Linda Virts and husband Roland, Lynn Anderson and husband Charles all of Frederick; Jane Skellchock and husband Joseph of Atlanta, GA; a number of stepgrandchildren, great grand-children and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Donald Spangler.
Services: Services and interment will be private.
