Roy Elden Smith

Mr. Roy Elden Smith, 76, of Mt. Airy, MD., passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007 at his home. He is survived by his loving wife Alberta Sickler Smith. They had recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Born August 12, 1930 in Hagerstown, MD he was the son of the late Roy and Carrie Rowe Smith.

Mr. Smith retired as a carpenter from Ernie Memphis Construction. After his retirement he worked part time for Weis Market. In earlier years he worked for the B & O Railroad. Roy served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved camping, woodworking, gardening and especially enjoyed his dog Candy.

In addition to his wife he is survived by eight children, Shirley R. White and husband Ronald, Donna J. Phebus and husband Stanley all of Mt. Airy, Roy E. Smith of Littlestown, PA, Barbara A. Deslatte and husband Randy of Taneytown, Earl W. Smith of Mt. Airy, Donald R. Smith and wife Linda, Susan Redmond all of Taneytown and Charles A. Smith of Mt. Airy; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a brother, Andrew Smith and wife Norma of Linthicum, MD. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Smith.


Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD., Monday, July 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Services: Services will be held Tuesday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, Md. with Rev. Elkridge Moses officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, MD.
