Royce Smith

Mr. Royce Herriod Smith, 79, of Frederick, MD died on Thursday,  April 1, 2021 at Ballenger Creek Center in Frederick.

Born April 16, 1941 in Minden, LA, Royce was one of 17 children. He was born to the late Matthew and Ruther Lee (Glover) Smith.

Humbly raised with his large family in Louisiana, Royce would later reside in Houston, TX for many years before moving to Frederick in 2014 to be closer to his family.

In 1979, after 21 years of service with the U.S. Army, Royce retired from his military career as a sergeant 1st class and went on to own and operate an HVAC business.

Royce was very proud of his military career, incredibly generous and had a great sense of humor. He especially loved to be social and he had very caring heart for children.

He is survived by daughters, Dawn Beverly and husband, Morven; and Lori Thompson and husband, Daniel; and two grandchildren; Ian and Aliyah Beverly, his former spouse, Sandra Hooper, many siblings and extended family.

Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
