Roy Zimmerman

Mr. Roy “Gene” Eugene Zimmerman, 86, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Frances Smith Zimmerman, his wife of 65 years.
Born October 30, 1926 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Roy McHenry and Lillie Irene Lantz Zimmerman.
Gene served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in Japan. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0011 and the Loyal Order of the Moose #371. Mr. Zimmerman worked at Nicodemus Ice Cream for 39 years and as a shuttle driver for SAIC at Ft. Detrick. He loved fishing, eating and steaming crabs, playing cards, watching wrestling and was an avid Redskin fan. He was known as “Pop” to many of his kids generation. Gene was of Lutheran faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Barry Zimmerman of Frederick, Robin Fisher and partner Ronnie Wiles of Hagerstown, Jay Zimmerman and wife Cynthia of Jefferson and Wynn Zimmerman and fiancé Kelly of Brunswick, grandchildren Crystal Stouter, Paul Fisher, Jamie Zimmerman, Crystal Flanary, Michael Zimmerman, Taylor Zimmerman, Mason Zimmerman, Tommy Zimmerman and Joshua Zimmerman, great grandchildren Brooke Wiles, Laken Stouter and Caiden Fisher, great-great grandchildren Gage Wiles, Paityn Akers and Sawyer Wiles and his siblings Doris Callahan and Charles “Bud” Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Zimmerman and a sister Betty Covell. He will be missed by his beloved cat “Blue”
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, June 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, where services will be held Friday, June 7, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Kay Rice officiating.
Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Gene wanted to thank the Pulmonary Unit at Frederick Memorial Hospital for their good care given to him during his stay there.
