Roy Eugene Myers, age 77, of Thurmont, MD went to be with his Lord and Savior while being surrounded by family at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Gettysburg Hospital after a long and courageous battle related to cancer.
Born on June 2, 1939, in Gettysburg, PA, he was the fourth of seven children of the late Charles and Helen Myers. He graduated from Thurmont High School, class of 1957. Eugene was the proud and successful third generation diary farmer of Sunnyside Dairy Farm. He was a terrific herdsman and a forerunner in uses of dairy technology.
Eugene was involved in many organizations over the years. These included: Creagerstown 4H and Thurmont FFA, past President of Thurmont High School Alumni, past Director of Capitol Milk Producers, past President of Catoctin High School Booster Club, member of Thurmont Grange for over 55 years, member of Frederick County Farm Bureau for over 50 years, and member of BPO Elk's Lodge 684. He was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Sports played a big role in Eugene's livelihood and he was an avid Washington Redskins, Nationals, Senators and Maryland Terps Fan. Those who knew Eugene also knew that he had a wonderful sense of humor. It is this humor that got him through a great deal of the last year, as well as the love and support from loving immediate and extended family, caregivers, and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Stirling Myers; father of Beth (Kim Gore) Myers, Tina (John) Duckworth and Kathy (Joe) Wolfman; grandfather of Megan and Sarah Duckworth, Justin and Jordan Wolfman; brother of Gloria (Ken) Angleberger, Rodman (late Jean) Myers, Juanita (Buzz) Bowers, Becky (Don) Linton, Gladys (Jim) Baker, Lyman (Connie) Myers.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD on Wednesday, June 15 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Eugene's life will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 101 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD at 11 am. Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Foundation of Frederick County for the Thurmont High School Alumni Fund, 312 East Street, Frederick, MD 21701 or online at cffredco.org, to assist a student in attending college from the Thurmont area.
