Roy Edward James, 78, of Mount Airy, passed away on  Monday, January 26, 2015, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Bertie L. James, his wife of 57 years.

Born on May 23, 1936, in Lee County, VA, he was the son of the late Samuel James and Bonnie M. Livesay James. He attended Sherwood High School. Roy worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Harold Morris in Gaithersburg as well as Daryl Winkler and James Excavating. He truly loved his job and even came out of retirement to work for Petit and Griffith. He enjoyed traveling and fishing. A real "people person", Roy loved having a cup of coffee with friends and spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Melissa Nakielny and husband Ryan of New Market, two grandchildren: Kelsi Cononie and Cortland Nakielny; one great grandson, Jonah Cononie; a sister, Ella Mae Finneyfrock of Hagerstown and a brother Johnny James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Mr. James was preceded in death by siblings: Mildred Arnold, Frank James, Harless James, Jessie James, Frank James and Emily Morton.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, February 1, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 2, at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, 2145 Mckendree Rd, West Friendship with Rev. Bill Phebus officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
