Mr. Roy "Jimmie" Earl Garrett, 88, of Frederick, died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of Helen Travis Garrett. They were married for 66 years.
Born February 25, 1924 in Rockledge, Ga., he was the son of the late George Washington Garrett and Zuma Cannon Garrett.
Mr. Garrett retired as a mechanic with Ft. Detrick. Prior to that, he worked for 27 years for Tolman Laundry in Washington, DC. Formerly of Rockville, Mr. Garrett and his wife lived in Smithsburg for 26 years and then 12 years in Frederick.
He was an avid hunter and was an active member of Garfield United Methodist Church and the FSK Post #11 American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Cynthia Hines and husband, Ed, of Rockville; Carol Garrett Hinds of Frederick; Dalton Garrett and wife, Kathy, of Harpers Ferry; Janet Boland and husband, Matt, of Thousand Oaks, Ca.; and Brenda Barger and husband, Jeff, of Damascus; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was the last of his immediate family.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 15 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Randy Reid.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
