Roy Delauter Jr.

Roy Leslie Delauter Jr., 79, of Conway, South Carolina, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at MUSC Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Ruby Lenhart Delauter.

Born on May 18, 1937 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Gladys Regina (Phelps) and Roy Leslie Delauter, Sr.

He was a 1955 graduate of Frederick High School, where he was an outstanding baseball player. Nicknamed Les "Dead Eye" Delauter, he had a 366 avg. as a rising senior.

In addition to baseball, he enjoyed bowling, hunting and was an outdoor enthusiast.

He was a longtime employee of Frederick Trading Company and Orgill. A former resident of Jarrettsville, they retired to South Carolina 10 years ago.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Linda Graham, Barbara Thacker, Michael Delauter, Dawn Humphrey, and Thomas Delauter; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Clara Crone, Delores Murphy, Nancy Baker, Annabelle Hay, and Richard Delauter.

He was predeceased by sisters, Shirley Foreman and Marie Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 22. Officiating will be his nephew, Gabriel White.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Highview Memorial Gardens, 3433 Fallston Road, Fallston, MD 21047.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to veterans organization of one's choice.
