Mr. Roy Cornelius Clabaugh, 93, of Thurmont, also known as "Pop" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, died Monday, January 25, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Gloria Weddle Clabaugh. They were married 68 years.

Born January 5, 1923 in Jimtown, he was the son of the late Ernest Clabaugh and Edith (Shriner) Clabaugh.

In younger years, Roy worked at Fairchild from 1941 until he was drafted during World War II in 1943. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as part of the European Theater of Operations in France, Belgium and Germany with the 1st and 3rd Divisions. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946.

In 1947, Roy began a 40-year career with Clair Frock as a pattern cutter. It was during this time that he was president of Local 256 ILGU for 25 years. He retired in 1987.

Additionally, Roy served on several committees and was a member of many Thurmont organizations. He was on the Planning and Zoning Committee and was a commissioner in the Town of Thurmont for four years; life member of #10 Guardian Hose Co., serving as president of the Ambulance Committee; life member of the American Legion and Amvets of Thurmont, the Moose Lodge of Gettysburg, the Elks Lodge in Hagerstown, and VFW of Emmitsburg; and was owner/manager of several rental properties in the Thurmont area.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, serving as president of the UCC Church Council, and treasurer of UCC Building Fund from 1956-58.

Roy was a very interested and active grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by his daughter, Sandra Clabaugh Wiley and husband, Matt Wiley of Thurmont; his son, Larry Clabaugh and wife, Sue Eyler Clabaugh; grandchildren, Erica Wiley Hayes, Chad Wiley and wife, Nikki; Andrew Clabaugh; Anna Catherine Clabaugh Laliotitis and husband, Niko; four great-grandchildren, Tessa Hayes, CJ Wiley, Mia Wiley, and Zeke Laliotitis; a sister, Lula Yingling; a brother, Russell Clabaugh; and many nieces and nephews.

Roy was predeceased by sisters, Anna Clabaugh, Lana Clabaugh, and Gace Clabaugh Wolf.

Roy also will be remembered by Sue's children, Liz Stitley and Margie Despaux and husband, Bryant and their children, Katie, Jack, and John and wife, Jessie, and their daughters, Lily and Clarabelle.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 101 E. Main Street, Thurmont.

Interment will be private at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
