Rosemary C. Torrine Kolega

July 17, 1937 — September 29, 2023

Jefferson

On September 29, 2023, Rosemary Torrine Kolega passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late George Joseph Kolega for 62 years.

Rosemary was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on July 17th, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Torrine (Rossi). She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through the eighth grade and attended St. Maria Goretti High School. Rosemary graduated from Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg, PA.

In 1960, Rosemary met the love of her life, George, and on December 27th, 1961, they were married. They lived in Rockville, Maryland where their six children were born. In 1976, they built their dream home and moved their family to Ijamsville, MD. Rosemary was a wonderful homemaker, who enjoyed cooking Italian dinners for family and friends. She spent many years volunteering at her children’s schools. Rosemary was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, where she spent several years as an eucharistic minister and CCD teacher. She enjoyed her time volunteering at Birthright of Frederick and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Rosemary loved to entertain and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends throughout the years. Since she was an only child, she spread her love to everyone and found joy in having many friends and caring for others. She savored her memories of spending summers in Ocean City, MD and winters in Venice, Fl. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends over the years.

She will be greatly missed by her six children: Susan Kolega Fisher (Chris), Kevin Nicholas Kolega (Carolyn), Elizabeth Kolega French (Braden), Margaret Augusta Kolega, Julia Kolega Geppert (Gary) and Gregory Torrine Kolega (Jennifer). Rosemary was a loving “Nonie” to her twelve grandchildren: Christopher and Marybeth Fisher, Nicholas (Kelsey), Brennan (Sydney), Joseph and Jakob Kolega, Alexandra and Reilly French, Nicholas and Marykate Geppert, Cameron and Drew Kolega, and great-granddaughters, Josephine, and Jacqueline Kolega.

Nonie’s love will forever be in our hearts, and we will continue to carry on her family legacy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 14th, 2023, at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East 2nd St., Frederick, Maryland 21701. Interment to follow at St. John’s Cemetery for both of our parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements are with Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at StaufferFuneralHome.com.
