Rose Golski

January 20, 1943 — December 24, 2016

Rose Golski, 73, died peacefully on December 24, 2016, at Somerford Place Memory Care Facility, Frederick, MD, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Married to John J. Golski, DDS for 50 years, even Alzheimer’s Disease couldn’t stop her from lighting up each day when she saw him.

Rose was born in Baltimore, MD, on January 20, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Joseph P. Bahl and Agnes F. Bahl. She grew up in Dushore, PA, where she helped raise her five younger brothers and sisters. Upon graduating from high school she moved to Norfolk, VA, where she worked as a bank secretary. She especially enjoyed the weekly dances in Norfolk. She returned to Baltimore to again help with her family. It was there, in Baltimore, that she met and fell in love with her future husband. She and John were married in April 1966 at Camp St. Barbara, Korea, north of the 38th parallel. Their next assignment took them to Neu-Ulm, Germany. Both of their children, Stephanie and Kenneth, were born in Augsburg. They returned to the States on the penultimate crossing by the SS United States. The family lived in several locations in NJ and MD as John continued his specialty training before settling down, in 1973, in Frederick where she resided until her death

While John was the periodontist, Rose was the face of and ran the office while also managing to be a full-time mom. Her house was the "go to" house of the neighborhood where she was a 4-H leader, sewed outfits for everyone (including wedding dresses for Stephanie and her daughter-in-law Ann and countless bridesmaid’s dresses), made the most outstanding costumes, created amazing birthday cakes (the original cake boss), threw the best Halloween parties, enjoyed and excelled at cooking (especially her sausage, peppers & onions at the family reunions she organized), painting (and re-painting) the house, rearranging furniture, gardening and watching the birds feed outside when the dogs or cats weren’t chasing them away. She also had a great love of art and music and enjoyed trips to the theater and museums in Baltimore and DC.

But most of all she loved her family, and was there for them through thick and thin. In addition to her beloved husband John, she is survived by daughter Stephanie Golski of Pennington, NJ, son and daughter-in-law Ken and Ann Golski of Leesburg, VA, and grandchildren Tyler Brennan of Atlanta, GA, Molly and Riley Golski of Leesburg, VA, and Bodhi and Isaac LaMontagne of Pennington, NJ. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Bahl of Gettysburg, PA, Mary Tezzano of Baltimore, MD, Colleen Kappes of Lexington, NC, William Bahl of Bath, NY and Christopher Bahl of Atlanta, GA along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rose, a 20-year breast cancer survivor, will be remembered for her caring, positive attitude, as well as her strength, warmth, creativity, humor, and generous, loyal spirit. Her ability to make everyone feel comfortable made for lots of interesting stories about meeting random people and within minutes learning their life story. She was able to see and appreciate beauty in all things, and in doing so, made the world a more beautiful place.

The family will receive friends on Friday January 13th from 7-9 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 3 pm also at Stauffer Funeral Home. Michael Currens, Deacon, St. John the Evangelist Church, will conduct the service. Following the service, the celebration of Rose’s life will continue at the FSK Post 11 of the American Legion, 1450 Taney Ave, Frederick, MD.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Rose’s name to Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. In keeping with her generous nature, Rose donated her brain for an Alzheimer’s and aging research study, for more information please see www.blsa.nih.gov .

Rose will be missed, but her spirit, bright smile and vibrant red hair will always remain with us.

"Irish Christmas Blessing"

May you be blessed with the spirit of the season,

Which is peace;

The gladness of the season,

Which is hope;

And the heart of the season,

Which is love.
