In the early morning hours of Friday, February 1st, 2013, Ronald (Ronnie) Lee Wood, 59, departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior.
Born on August 31, 1953, in Frederick, MD, Ronnie was the husband of Donna Kephart Wood and son of the late Jonas & Mary Wood--the 8th of eight children.
A 1971 graduate of Frederick High School, Mr. Wood joined the U.S. Army and was attached to an artillery division but never left the states.  He ended his tour of duty stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas.
Following his tour with the military,  Mr. Wood worked with Woodies Remodeling–owned and operated by one of his oldest brothers, Austin Wood, becoming a skilled carpenter with that artistry passed on to his sons.
He worked for a short stint of time with Kettler Brothers in Gaithersburg, MD where he met a gentlemen by the name of Ray Hurley.  It was Mr. Hurley that encouraged Mr. Wood to take a position in the carpentry shop with National Geospatial Intelligence Agency in Bethesda, MD where he rose to become Chief of the division.
In spring of 2009, Mr. Wood fulfilled a life-long dream.  He retired from his federal government position and took over the operation of the family farm in Urbana, MD; and to date, crop farms over 500 acres and expanded his business by raising free-range Black Angus beef cattle.
Ronnie was an active, faithful, and long-time member of the Ijamsville United Methodist Church where he served consecutive terms as their Board of Trustees Chair Person.
Mr. Wood was a devoted son, husband, brother, friend, and grandfather doting on his two grandsons Noah and Warner with a third grandson expected in early April.
Ronnie is survived his devoted wife and best friend, Donna, whom he was married for 37  years; two sons, Jonas  & wife Julie and grandson, Noah; Jason & Colleen–grandson Warner;   siblings Edwin Wood & wife Jean; Texanna Stup and husband Howard; Gloria Condon; Virginia Greene and husband John; Richard Wood; and so many great friends especially Gary Rice, Bill Fouche, and Paul Geisbert.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jonas & Mary Wood; brothers Lewis and Austin; and nephews Douglas Stup and Jerry Condon.
Musical selections provided by nephews: Donnie Wood, Michelle Brazelton, Kelsey Moore, Anthony Greene, and Adam Greene.
The Rev. Franklin Bishop of the Ijamsville United Methodist Church and Mr. Wood’s pastor will preside over the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be his sons, Jonas & Jason Wood; nephews: Donald Wood, Richard Wood, Jr., Brian Wood, Adam Greene: friends Gary Rice, Dan Henson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brothers Edwin & Richard Wood.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 5 at 10:00AM with Rev. Franklin D. Bishop officiating.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O.Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to the Ijamsville United Methodist Church, 4746 Mussetter Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754.
