Mr. Ronald “Ron” Ralph Lichtinger, Sr. 87 of Frederick, formerly of Braddock Heights,Maryland passed away on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Homewood of Crumland Farms. He was the husband of Geraldine Lichtinger, his wife of 67 years.
Born October 16, 1928 in Erie, PA he was the son of the late Vincent and Louisa Lichtinger.
Ronald was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Frederick.
After high school, Ron served in the US Army for two years. He was married in 1948 in Erie, PA to his loving wife Geri. He graduated from Duquesne University in 1955 with a Bachelor’s Degree.
He was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1948 where he became a special agent in 1955 and retired in 1978. Following his retirement he worked as an Investigator for the States Attorney’s Office in Frederick for ten years.
He was a highly skilled Law Enforcement Marksman, a member of the FOP Lodge 88 in Hagerstown, American Legion Post #11, V.F.W. 3285, a member of the C&O Canal Association, the Maryland Fish and Game Association and a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI . He also served as a faithful volunteer with the Frederick County Veterans Association and was a member of the committee for the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
Ron was an avid Baltimore Orioles, Colts and Ravens fan. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and shooting.
In addition to his loving wife Geraldine, he is survived by his sons, Carl Lichtinger of Jefferson, Ronald Jr. and wife Theresa of PA, Kenneth Lichtinger of Thurmont and James “Jim” Lichtinger of Thurmont, a daughter, Susan Walters and husband Christopher of Ijamsville, two brothers, Bill and Vincent Lichtinger and a sister, Lois Yarrington of Erie, six grandchildren, Ron and wife Katrina, Paul and wife Shannon, Kate Mills and husband Sam, Andy Walters and fiancé Phuong Vo, Mary Walters and Tommy Walters, three great grandchildren, Thilo, Anna and Mikey and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Richard.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Tuesday, December 8th from 3-5 and 7-9PM. A Memorial Mass will be held at Homewood at Crumland Farms on Wednesday, December 9th at 1:00pm with Rev. Michael Jendrek officiating.
