Mr. Ronald Dale "Ron" Guthrie, 75, of New Midway, MD, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of Mary Bostian Guthrie. They were married for 26 years.
Born January 7, 1937 in Bayard, W.Va., he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Dunithan) Guthrie.
His family left West Virginia when he was 15 and moved to Baltimore where his father worked. Ron held various jobs as a teen to help support his parents while he went to school. He graduated from Dundalk High School in 1955.
After high school, Ron worked for Fleming and Sheeley, a home improvement company. He later opened Ron's Carpet on Market Street in Frederick, a business he owned and operated for six years. After this time, he worked for Montgomery Ward. In 1982, Ron partnered with his old friend, Jim Cramer of Harpers Ferry, W.Va. and they opened and operated Blue Ridge Floors in Jefferson, MD for 20 years.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his children, Allan Guthrie and wife, Angi, of Omaha, NE; Karen Hill and husband, Charles “Fuzz” of Taneytown; Paula Wivell and husband, Dale, of Union Bridge; Randy Stover and wife, Angela, of Middletown; grandchildren, Jody Rodkey of Westminster, MD, and Jeremy Rodkey of McSherrystown, PA, Jessica Schoenberger of Hanover, PA; Derek Guthrie of Taneytown, Amanda Wivell of Union Bridge; Hannah and Sarah Stover, both of Middletown; and Stevie Swails and Jakob Morrow, both of Omaha, NE; a sister, Grace Arthur of Essex; two aunts, Helen Roy and Pauline Harvey, both of Bayard, WVa.; three great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Pat Robinson; and a brother, Douglas Guthrie.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, MD 21793.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 30 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Ron’s brother-in-law, Rev. Lester Boleyn, and Ron’s friend, Rev. James Benedict.
Interment will follow at Rocky Hill Cemetery in Woodsboro.
