Ronald Joseph "RJ" Shorb, 73, of Thurmont, Md, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, after a very brief illness.
RJ was born November 6, 1941 to the late Walter Shorb and Evelyn Harbaugh.
RJ served in the US Army before becoming a self-employed flooring contractor for over 40 years. After retiring he took up farming. He loved to be in the hay field riding a tractor and making hay and going to sales in the Amish Country buying chickens and produce that he would give to family and friends, which were many.
RJ is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty J. Shorb; daughter, Linda Coblentz and husband, Dave; grandchildren, Ginger Coblentz (Rusty), David Coblentz (Jenny); great-grandchildren, Tyler Donnelly, Christopher, Cora and Chloe Coblentz; great-great-grandchildren, Blaine and Hadley Elliot; other grandchildren and step children Terry "Huck" Davis and Joe Davis; brother, Merhle "Butch" Shorb; sister, Sharon Walker (Bill); special niece, Kim Thomas; and other nieces and nephews. Also, he will be greatly missed by the people at McDonald's that met for meals.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Weller United Methodist Church Cemetery in Thurmont with Pastor Bob Kells officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weller United Methodist Church of Thurmont, MD, in memory of RJ.
