Ronald Eugene McDermott

Ronald Eugene McDermott, 81, of Hagerstown, passed from this life on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born on January 7, 1942, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Eugene Milford and Marie Elizabeth (Shank) McDermott.

Ronnie graduated in 1959 from the Boonsboro High School. He served in the US Navy before beginning a career at Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown, until his retirement. 

He was a member of Boonsboro Fire Company, American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro, and the North American Rod and Gun Club.

Ronnie is survived by his sister and brother, Shirley Keller and husband, Jay, and Donald L. McDermott and wife, Sue, all of Middletown; daughter, Kelly Tucker and husband, Bill, of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Makayla McDermott of Hagerstown, and Jacob and Cody Tucker of Sharpsburg; special friend, Debbie Ridenour of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven McDermott; and a grandson, Wesley McDermott. 

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.

A celebration of Ronnie's life journey will take place at 2 p.m.on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the funeral home with Rev. Tim May officiating. Burial will be held at Boonsboro Cemetery.
