Ronald Grant

June 19, 1940 — April 10, 2015

Ronald Lee Grant, 74, of Hagerstown, Maryland passed from this life on Friday, April 10, 2015 at his home.

Born on June 19, 1940 in Mishawaka, Indiana, he was the son of the late James Melvin and Marguerite Montez (Sharp) Grant.

He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1958.

Ronnie went to work as a produce supplier in Elkhart, Indiana, and then at the Ball Band Plant in Mishawaka. In October of 1962, he became a proud new member of The Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 75. He became politically involved in the Local Union early in his career, holding every office possible. In December of 1975, he was elected as the Business Agent. He was sworn in as the International Organizer/Jurisdictional Director in Washington D.C. in 1983, and he would become an International Representative and serve as the representative for the Insulators and Asbestos Workers on the National Maintenance Agreement Committee and the General Presidents Maintenance Agreement Committee, retiring after seventeen years.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro, Maryland.

He was a jack of all trades. Ronnie enjoyed helping people with construction, remodeling, landscaping, gardening, and just being around people. He had a strong work ethic that he taught to his sons. If anyone needed help of any kind, he was there to get it done. He never met a stranger; he was a kind and generous man.

Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Aletha Louise  (McCarthy) Grant; two sons, Scott E. Grant and wife Lisa of Knoxville, Maryland, and Robert J. Grant and Laurie O'Connell and her children Kate and Annie Burns, all of Sharpsburg, Maryland; two granddaughters, Leslie Grant Stillitano and husband Matthew, and Alexis Grant, all of Knoxville; one great grandson, Benjamin Grant Stillitano; and one brother, Richard J. Grant and wife Nancy of South Bend, Indiana. He is also survived by two nephews, Thomas Grant and his son Christopher of South Bend, and Jon Grant, wife Mary, and their children Mallory, Molly, and Lindsay, all of Indianapolis, Indiana.

A memorial mass and luncheon will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742; or, St. James Catholic Church, 121 North Main Street, Boonsboro, Maryland, 21713.
