Ronald Frye

May 12, 1941 — January 14, 2019

On Monday, January 14, 2019, Ron suddenly went home to be with the Lord.
Ron was incredible. He was hilarious, very intelligent, kind, a wholesome man’s man who loved life. Born on May 12, 1941, in Olney Maryland, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Perla V. Beall Frye.
Ronald was the oldest of six children. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, of 27 years. One daughter from his first marriage, when he was 18 years of age, Robin Hammond and husband, Garland; as well as his three grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Larry Frye and his wife, Kathy; sister, Ellen Morton and late husband, Jerry; brother, James Frye; sisters, Julie Nicklas and husband, Randy and Betsy Grady and her companion, James; along with many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Ron started his working career as a journeyman plumber at Amberger and Wholfarth in D.C. and Capital Cigar & Tobacco Co. as a salesman selling various sundries, including tobacco and sunglasses. Then Ron started a career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. Ron attended the Prince Georges County Police Academy. He won a prize for top gun from his academic class at PG County. He was highly proficient as a Certified Firearms Instructor and he was a lifelong firearms enthusiast. Ron spent many years working in the MCSD. He traveled extensively throughout the United States to bring criminals back to Montgomery County to face charges through the court system.
Ron also headed the fugitive section of the Sheriff’s Department, supervising other deputies. He taught his staff how to search for and hunt down criminals, and they served warrants and arrested the criminals to bring them to justice. Ron was very proud of the people he worked with in the fugitive section.
Ron also loved the outdoors, traveling and hunting, bringing quality meat home. His nickname was Big 10 Bears. Randy Fryez and Ron’s brother Larry Frye along with Ron, loved to travel, hunt deer, and camp out during deer season in West Virginia. They would also travel to various locations to hunt Caribou, Moose and Sika Deer. He truly loved the outdoors and fishing. He would be busy traveling all year long to enjoy the Great Outdoors.
Ron had a full and exciting life and was thought of highly by all. The world will miss this massive, loving, and funny man. “Go with God my love.”
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at The Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD with the Rev. Tim May officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before and after services on Saturday at the funeral home.
