Ronald L. Clipp, Sr., USA, Ret. (along with his wife Teresa Clipp) passed suddenly on April 8, 2012 at their home in Box Springs, Georgia.
Born on Aug 8, 1932 in Yarrowsburg, Maryland, he was the son of Cecil Clipp, Sr. and Mary E. (Smallwood) Clipp.
Mr. Clipp proudly entered into the United States Army on November 30, 1954, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 on December 31, 1974. He served in Korea and twice in Vietnam, receiving the National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Expert Badge (M-14).
After retiring from service in the Military, he operated a Postal contract Station at Ft. Benning, Georgia. In his earlier years he worked on the B&O Railroad in Brunswick, Maryland.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying both with his children. He loved and raised many animals, enjoying them while working on his small farm in Marion County, Georgia.
He is survived by his four children, Rhonda Kennedy and husband Ed of Fortson, Georgia, Sharon Cox of Columbus, Georgia, Donald (Don) Clipp and wife Jeannette of Phenix City, Alabama, and Lorraine Clipp also of Phenix City; seven grandchildren, Sean & Ryan Kennedy, Wes Cox, Crystal Kent & Mandy Law, Jonathan & Bobby Malave; twelve great grandchildren, Tyler & Colt Kennedy, Jacob & Dillion Cox, Bryce Taylor, Clayton Law, Diamond, Jonathan, Jr., Keiston, Nathaniel, Alexia & Candence Malave; one brother, Cecil Clipp, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Boonsboro, Maryland; one sister, Lorraine Anders of Frederick, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his beloved dog Michelle.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Anne Clipp; his son, Ronald Clipp, Jr., two granddaughters Tiffiany Kennedy and McKenna Cox; and a brother Sherman Clipp.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 o'clock p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Maryland, 21715. Rev. Alan M. Smith will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Brownsville Heights Cemetery in Brownsville. Military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 from Boonsboro. Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro has been entrusted with the arrangements.
