Rolland Viti, 93 passed away on January 4, 2018 at Somerford Assisted Living, Frederick, Maryland surrounded by his loved ones.
A native of Shickshinny, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Samuel and Gonda Viti. Rolland graduated from Shickshinny High School, Class of 1943 where he studied music, trombone with Alex Curnow. Following graduation he joined the US Army Airforce Band where he played trombone and entertained our troops during World War II. Rolland graduated from Wilkes College while playing with the Lee Vincent Orchestra before moving to Lutherville Maryland to become an educator with Baltimore County Public Schools. After retiring as a school principal, he continued his musical career with a variety of bands.
Rolland was preceded in death by his loving wife Joan Krothe Viti, his parents, sister Geraldine, brother Sam and grandson Robert G. Viti. Surviving are his son Robert, wife Irene, grandchildren Colin, Matthew, and Adrianna of Thurmont, Maryland and his son James, wife Josie, grandchildren Ryan and Julia of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. His brother George and wife Teresa, brother in law Dale Krothe and wife Ferne, sisters in law Kay Krothe Wolfe and husband Mark, Donna Krothe Goobic, Irene Pennington Krothe, and Joyce Splann Krothe and numerous nieces and nephews
A memorial service will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD on Saturday, May 5th at 11:00am. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00-11:00am.
Inurnment will be held the next day in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania.
