Rolland L. Ross, 80, of Boonsboro, formerly of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2016 at Reeder’s Nursing Home following a courageous battle with dementia.
Born April 25, 1936 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Albert and Phyllis Ross and George Pelleschi. He was also preceded in death by a brother Daniel E. Ross in 1997.
Rolland retired from Verizon in 1999 in the engineering department after 32 years of service. He was a graduate of Fairbanks High School in Alaska, and attended Penn State University. He also graduated from Allegany College of Maryland, Magna Cum Laude, in 1986. He joined the United States Marine Corps in June 1955 and proudly served until 1959. His hobbies included hunting and playing with his ham radios. He also enjoyed time on the internet after his retirement. He was a former member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church.
Rolland is survived by his wife, Dianne K. Ross of Hagerstown; one daughter, Deborah L. Ross and Raymond Ikley Jr. of Cumberland; his sister, Tonia L. Ross of Almagordo, NM; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Friend of Hagerstown, MD and Margaret Rusk (Dave) of Frederick, MD.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Avenue.
A committal service will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans’ Cemetery, Rocky Gap Chapel on Thursday, May 26 at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Ron Welsh officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans’ Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 13 Veterans’ Honor Guard.
